From May 28 through August 26, first and business class passengers on Lufthansa flights from Switzerland are in for a treat, beyond all that enviable leg room. They will be treated to the cuisine of Gregor Zimmermann, executive chef at the Bellevue Palace in Bern. Dinner onboard, for example, will begin with amuse-bouches, including crêpe rolls with salmon trout and fennel. Zimmerman’s food is beloved in Bern and has garnered him 16 Gault Millau points. Our travel tip? Relax on the restaurant La Terrasse before boarding your flight to soak in all that fresh Swiss air. The al fresco cafe is the best perch in town for people-watching all the dignitaries who stop in for a meal and meet-and-greet when passing through the Swiss capital.

Summer is finally here – short sleeves, ice cream trucks, and the first hints of that great summer tan – and to celebrate, The Wauwinet is throwing open its doors at a discounted rate. For this weekend only (June 6-8, 2008), guests of The Wauwinet enjoy a rate of $350 a night as a bonus to the gloriously sunny skies predicted. And as Nantucket is only a quick flight or drive from just about anywhere in New England, there is little excuse to not move up that weekend summer getaway.

Another idea for doing Nantucket in peak season but avoiding the crowds: a mid-week visit. From Sunday-Thursday in July, guests of The Wauwinet can indulge in all that the inn has to offer at a fraction of the price - starting at $500 a night. At the Northeast tip of the island, The Wauwinet is peacefully secluded even in the busiest of times, but sometimes you want to feel like you have an island to yourself!
