new chef on nantucket

The Wauwinet has announced that Chef Kyle Zachary has joined the award-winning TOPPER’S restaurant this fall as Executive Chef.   Zachary is no stranger to TOPPER’S; for two seasons in 2005 and 2006 Zachary worked as TOPPER’s PM Sous Chef.

A graduate of the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA, Zachary honed his skills in various restaurants including Alinea in Chicago, the Wheatleigh in Lenox, MA, and the Winnetu Inn at Martha’s Vineyard. Most recently Chef Kyle was the Sous Chef a la Carte in charge of the main dining room at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dusseldorf, Germany.

“When Chef Zachary heard of the opening at TOPPER’S he called me right away,” commented Eric Landt, General Manager of The Wauwinet.  “He said to me ‘I have been waiting all my life for this opportunity; this is my dream job’.”

Much has changed at TOPPER’S since Zachary’s last stint at this Nantucket favorite – not only has a new, more relaxed “deck” menu and a more approachable wine list been introduced,  the infamous TOPPER’S breakfast is now available for non-hotel guests.  With these changes TOPPER’S world-class dining experience, exquisite cuisine, and impeccable service still remain the very best that Nantucket has to offer.  In fact, TOPPER’S and The Wauwinet have garnered various accolades over the years, including being named in the top 10 in Travel + Leisure’s for World’s Best Service in U.S. and Canada in 2010.   TOPPER’S has also been the recipient of Wine Spectators’ Grand Award for 15 consecutive years.

Zachary relocated to Nantucket with his wife Barbara and will begin at TOPPER’S on September 3.  Besides spending time in the kitchen, Zachary also enjoys playing golf and tennis, fishing, and traveling.
