disco fever

August 13th, 2010

Grand Hyatt Tokyo always listens to their guests, so when they heard complaints that the city offered “no night spots for adults” – the hotel sprung into action creating a popular semiannual tradition.

This year’s party will pay homage to the classics… the 1970’s classics that is. Club Chic 2010 Summer will be a night of dancing featuring the crowd-pleasing tunes of the Commodores, Gloria Gaynor and the Village People to name-drop a few.

A dinosaur-themed vacation in the city that gave us Godzilla! The Summer with Dinosaurs package at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo includes tickets to the Dinosaur Museum’s special exhibit “Dawn of the Dinosaurs” in the Mori Arts Center, which features computer graphic animation, interactive dinosaur origami, and special dinosaur modeling classes with a resident paleontologist. Located on the 52nd floor of the Mori Tower, ‘Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ features some of the earliest dino specimens knows, making the Jurassic period look futuristic. It is a great family activity that every age group will enjoy.

As part of the package, children staying at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo will receive a dinosaur amenity from the hotel, and parents can enjoy either lunch at Grand Hyatt’s Oak Door restaurant or breakfast via room service. Rates start at 38000JPY, approx $426 USD.

After a day of running around through life sized dinosaur dioramas, parents can indulge in a mini adult vacation; leave the kids with a babysitter, and pull up to the dinosaur-themed bar for some prehistoric inspired cocktails, like the herb mojito—a Triassic favorite. Grand Hyatt Tokyo also offers nightly entertainment at the Maduro Bar, a perfect after-hours reprieve after the day’s excitement. It is sure to be a thrilling and dynamic family trip!

a touch of nature in a buzzing metropolis

Grand Hyatt Tokyo

Located in the picturesque and high-tech Roppongi development in Tokyo, the Mori Art Museum is known for featuring cutting-edge contemporary Asian artists. A short five minute walk from the Grand Hyatt, this art museum is conveniently located as well. The upcoming exhibit that begins on July 24th is titled ‘Sensing Nature: Rethinking the Japanese Perception of Nature’. This incredible exhibit features recently commissioned works by acclaimed artists, Yoshioka Tokujin, Shinoda Taro, and Kuribayashi Takashi. All three artists use their unique styles and abilities to create impressive installations that express their perception of nature. With most of Japan’s population living in cities, this exhibit offers an intriguing commentary on nature as viewed through urbanization and modernization. More of Tokujin’s adventurous work can also be seen at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, a scenic eight minute park walk from one of our favorite New York hotels, the Andaz 5th Avenue. This captivating exhibit will be on display at the Mori until November 7th and is just one of many exciting activities that can be found in Roppongi.

spicy tokyo!

April 15th, 2010

Picture 035

We’re gearing up our taste buds for a spicy celebration honoring our favorite sinus clearing condiment-Wasabi! Shunbou, Grand Hyatt Tokyo’s Japanese restaurant, will be treating diners to a little (or a lot) of extra heat for a spring Wasabi Fair. Executive chef Josef Budde will be serving a traditional wasabi grown and harvested locally in the river streams of famed wasabi region Okutama. Nothing tastes as good as the real deal, so get yourself a room and a table, and feel free to thank us later.

From now until May 31, 2010 homemade wasabi tofu and wasabi steamed rice will be served alongside dishes made to temper the heat, like marbled tuna and charcoal grilled Hida beef with seasoned vegetables. Shunbou’s resident sake sommelier Atsushi Sato will be on hand to recommend the proper sake pairing to best wash it all down. Kanpai!
