Owned by Cyprus-born industrialist Dakis Joannou, one of the world’s leading collectors of contemporary art. In 1983, Joannou established the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art, a non-profit that organizes exhibitions and publications with the goal of popularizing established and emerging artists. Situated on the tree-lined Filellinon Street, adjacent to Constitution Square (Syntagma Square) and the city’s leafy National Gardens, the NEW Hotel is ideally located for exploring Athens’ top sights: the open-air cafés of Plaka, the antique shops of Monastiraki, and the Acropolis districts all within a 10- to 15-minute walk away. Member of Design Hotels, it is the first hotel venture by powerhouse Brazilian duo Fernando and Humberto Campana, focusing on restoring and recycling, in collaboration with local architects and designers. Guests can enjoy a book from the hotel’s library of more than 2,000 art books while taking in the panoramic views of the Acropolis and the Parliament.
