Schwizerhof

In Switzerland’s charming, car-free town of Zermatt, the iconic Schweizerhof Hotel reopened in 2018 with a fresh look and feel following an extensive, eight-month top-to-bottom renovation. Designed in an Alpine-chalet style, Schweizerhof is situated on the main thoroughfare of Bahnhofstrasse at the base of the Matterhorn. Oak walls and marble bathrooms in the guest rooms create a cozy, yet contemporary environment while fun touches like wooden hiking sticks, cow bells and comforters emblazoned with the Matterhorn lend a sense of place. For a 95-room hotel there are an impressive number of restaurants – five to be exact, including one serving nearly a dozen styles of fondue and raclette, a staple of the Valais region, served to a soundtrack of Swiss folk music. The hotel spa has not been overlooked (it is Switzerland, after all), with an indoor swimming pool, three saunas, a Hammam and Nescens better-aging treatments.

La Chartreuse de Cos d'Estournel

Stay in the heart of Bordeaux at La Chartreuse de Cos d’Estournel, the private residence of Michel Reybier. Located in a 200-acre vineyard, the Jacques Garcia-designed house sleeps 16 and has six bedrooms and two suites, as well as a library, dining room, hammam treatment room, indoor swimming pool and wine cellar, decorated in a mix of European antiques and Asian tapestries. During their stay, guests can go behind the scenes to experience life on the vineyard, one of just 14 Chateaux ranked as Second Growth in 1855, and get to know its wines intimately. The property only recently opened its doors to the public and is exclusively available to rent in its entirety.

La Maison d'Estournel

Following the opening in August 2019 as a 14-room property, La Maison d’Estournel will reopen for the season in Spring 2020 after an expansion into a 40-room hotel.  Alex Michaelis of Soho House is designing the property’s 40 rooms, which are spread across two floors. Guests will find oak plank floors, floral-print linen drapes, velvet-upholstered furniture in hues of burgundy and dark green, and freestanding bathtubs. Many of the rooms have terraces overlooking the 5-acre grounds. Complete with a library, tasting room, and onsite vegetable garden, the property retains the feeling of a private residence – guests can even go into the kitchen and help themselves to the pantry. The property is located on the Cos d’Estournel vineyard and just a short walk away from hotelier Michel Reybier’s private family home, La Chartreuse de Cos d’Estournel, which is available exclusively for buyouts. Offsite activities at La Maison d’Estournel include fishing on the coast, golf, bike riding – we recommend bringing along a wicker picnic basket, which can be found in the rooms – and of course, wine tasting.

La Reserve Paris

It took eight years to find the perfect Parisian location for the latest addition to the La Réserve brand. La Réserve Paris opened in 2015 in a Haussmann-style mansion in the city’s eighth arrondissement. The building was constructed in 1854 and owned by the family of the Duc of Morny (step-brother of Emperor Napoleon III) until 1888. Today it is a 40-room hotel (26 of which are suites) designed by interior designer Jacques Garcia who lent his signature touch to the décor, with silk damask walls, velvet drapery and herringbone parquet floors. With walls lined with over 3,000 antique books from the 19th century, The Duc de Morny Library is reserved for guests only during the day; they can dine, drink afternoon tea, and enjoy an honor bar. At 6pm it turns into a jazz bar that is open to the public. Other guests-only locations include the three-room spa with a swimming pool and the cigar room. Super exclusive, over-the-top experiences that the hotel can coordinate include: a local perfumer to create a custom scent; a couture fashion house to coordinate a dress or a tuxedo for a night at the opera; and a private concert in the suite. Helmed by Chef Jérôme Banctel, Le Gabriel restaurant has two Michelin stars and this year was awarded ‘Best Dining Experience’ in Virtuoso’s Best of the Best Awards. Personalized in-room amenities include monogrammed linens, his/her (slate/blush) bathrobes, jewelry box in signature La Réserve red, as well as hand weights and Pilates stretch bands.

La Reserve Eden au Lac

La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich opened on January 8, 2020 following a two-year restoration project helmed by Philippe Starck. The French Empire-style building dates back to 1909 and houses the only luxury hotel located on Lac Zurich. The majority of the 40 rooms and suites have views of the lake and many have their own private balcony or terrace. Taking inspiration from the location, Starck wanted to give guests the feeling of being on a yacht. He lent his signature contemporary touch with neutral tones and sleek metal accents, while honoring the building’s historical elements, revealing the original exposed red brick, marble and hardwood floors, and keeping the iconic blue-and-white-striped awnings that adorn the lake-facing façade.

The ground-floor Eden Kitchen & Bar features an open kitchen and large bay windows overlooking the lake and serves globally inspired dishes and Swiss classics like sautéed veal and potato rosti. The sixth-floor rooftop restaurant, La Muña, has a Peruvian-Japanese menu in an eclectic space that resembles the interior of the hull of a ship. Come spring, guests can dine and have drinks on the rooftop terrace, which offers 360-degree views of the city and the Alps in the distance.

La Reserve Geneva

On the shore of Lake Geneva lies Reybier’s flagship retreat, the Jacques Garcia-designed La Réserve Genève. The hotel’s spirit exudes a simple elegance that resonates through the unpretentious yet fashionable décor, fine cuisine, and world-class spa. Families are welcome here, with children from six months to 13 years of age encouraged to play and have fun at La Petite Réserve. In summer, La Petite Réserve receives children on the property's expansive lawns with a wood cabin on stilts, game tables and an entirely wooden obstacle course: tree stumps to climb, suspended bridge, fireman’s pole and slide… The outside pool, the swimming instructors and supervisors offer swimming and diving lessons as well as programmes to overcome fear of water. Meanwhile, mom and dad can sneak away for that well-deserved massage.
