ring in spring with the nantucket daffodil festival

March 1st, 2012

The debate is on as to whether or not the groundhog saw his shadow, but there is no denying that the countdown to spring has begun! Before long, our favorite sign of spring, the daffodil, will be making its return to Nantucket. Over three million daffodils bloom on Nantucket from early-April to mid-May, and the yellow, orange, white, and pale pink blooms are a beautiful reminder of the new season.

Every year, Nantucket kicks off spring by honoring the trumpeted flower with the Nantucket Daffodil Festival Weekend. From April 27-29, Nantucket natives and visitors alike will celebrate the return of warmer weather with fun and festive activities like the Window Decorating Contest, the Antique Car Parade (with over 100 antique cars), the Children’s Parade, the Daffy Hat Pageant, and the Annual Tailgate Picnic.

The flowers aren’t the only thing in bloom – the whole island appears to wake up to welcome spring. Take advantage of the warmer weather with long walks on the beach, bike rides down the recently resurfaced 6.4 miles of bike paths, and leisurely strolls along Main Street. Explore the Nantucket culinary scene and have a first taste of Brant Point Grill’s 2012 menu (home of the famous Lobster Bloody Mary).

In honor of the weekend, Nantucket Island Resorts has a special package available at the White Elephant, White Elephant Hotel Residences, The Cottages & Lofts at the Boat Basin, and the Jared Coffin House.
